Managing a self storage Facility for almost ten years I have seen the good, the bad and the downright scary when it comes to Removal Companies. When it comes to selecting one with only a telephone call and a website to go by, what should you look out for??? Here are my Top 3 Tips.
- Price: Call at least three companies and get an idea of the price for your move. Be as specific as possible. Amount of furniture, any unique items (pool tables, very heavy or precious), whether you have stairs and general access for their truck. If a company is extremely cheap I would clarify that you are getting at least two men and also check the size of the truck. I have had a number of clients who went with the super cheap price only to find that one man and a tiny truck turned up.
- Recommendations: Look for any customer referrals on websites or Facebook. Your local storage Facility is also a good place to start even if you are not moving your goods in to store. As a Self Storage Facility manager I always make a point of asking clients, that have moved with a Removalist I am not familiar with, whether they would recommend them. You will find most Storage Facilities will also be happy to give you some numbers and recommend who goes interstate, who are great for local moves etc.
- Extra Charges: Don’t get caught out with unexpected charges. Ask for the quote to be made from depot to you and vice versa. You want to know if you are paying travelling time from the truck’s depot to your home and an approximate amount in time/money.
You will get a general feel for the company from your initial phone call. If they are prompt and professional with what seems like good customer service you will be less likely to be left disappointed come moving day.
